First Day of Spring Equinox 2023-JBLGarden
Today marks the arrival of the Spring Equinox, also known as the traditional Chinese festival of Chunfen, which falls on March 20th in 2023. The Spring Equinox represents the time when day and night are of equal length, signaling the arrival of Spring and the transition from the cold Winter months.
What happens in the Spring Equinox?
The equinox marks the first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere, but to be more specific, it's the day the sun's rays shine onto the equator while the Earth sits with its axis tilted neither toward nor away from the sun. This causes 12 hours of sunlight almost everywhere on Earth.
Observing this festival has been a tradition in China for over 4,000 years, and it holds great significance in Chinese culture. During this time, people often visit their ancestors' graves, sweep their homes clean, and enjoy various Spring foods, such as eggs and green vegetables, to welcome the new season.
As Spring begins, people celebrate the return of warmth and light, symbolizing new beginnings, growth and renewal. We hope that this year’s Spring Equinox brings with it good fortune, happiness, and prosperity for everyone, signaling a brighter and healthier future ahead.
Wish a brighter, healthier and more prosperous future for everyone!
